Thomas P. Leary Sr.

Thomas Phillip Leary Sr., 83, residing in Lucerne, California, passed away on Dec. 12, 2022.

Thomas, known by all as Tom, was born in Queens on Aug. 23, 1939. He spent most of his childhood in Saranac Lake, growing up with his aunts, uncles and cousins under the watchful eye of his grandmother. Tom attended Catholic school and upon graduating he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and saw the world.

Tom was a loving father and husband raising three children, Thomas Jr., John and Michelle. He later married his wife Denise of 40 years and helped to raise her sons, Larry, Michael and Loic. He will be remembered by his wife, six children, their wives, his 14 grandchildren — one who is his namesake, Thomas III — and six great-grandchildren.

Tom always took an active role with his children and enjoyed spending time as a child himself on the lake where he grew up and later in life on the lake where he built a home. He always had a boat before and after the Navy, as boating was one of his favorite pastimes. You could usually find Tom with family or friends enjoying a bottle or two of wine along with some cheese, crackers and stories on any given day. He enjoyed his life, his career and those who were close to him, we will miss him and know he is in a better place.

Services were held at Holy Trinity Parish in El Dorado Hills, California and Thomas was given a military burial at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon, California. Visitation to his grave is welcomed and location may be found at the information center.
