Lutz Friedrich Goesser
Lutz Friedrich Goesser, age 82, of Saranac Lake, passed away unexpectedly on Dec. 30, 2022.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 45 years, Karin Anna Goesser. He is also survived by his daughters Birgit Goesser-Broch of Benicassim, Spain, and Julia Goesser-Assaiante of Hartford, Connecticut, along with Karin’s children Sabine Vossen of Aachen, Germany; Gisela Emonds of Aachen; Manfred Vigener of Kerkrade, Holland; and Niklas Vigener of Sudbury, Massachussets; as well as many grandchildren.
Lutz was born in Dren, Germany, on Oct. 11, 1940, to Gertrud Peter, nee Dersch, and Fritz Peter. His father, Fritz Peter, was killed fighting in Russia during World War II. Lutz later took the name of his adoptive father, Erwin Goesser. Lutz studied applied physics and electrical engineering at the Rheinisch-Westflische Technische Hochschule in Aachen, Germany. He left the university short of obtaining his Ph.D to start a computer software consulting firm with three of his fellow students. Over 15 years their company, GEI, grew to several hundred employees with offices in major German cities and Los Angeles. In 1985, Lutz retired from GEI, and he and Karin moved to Cranberry Lake, and later to Saranac Lake.
In addition to being an entrepreneur and business leader, Lutz had a keen scientific and artistic mind, and fastidious attention to detail, all of which he applied to his many pursuits. In Germany, he was an accomplished automobile racer and instructor, and participated in 24-hour races on the famed Nrburgring, driving a modified Porsche 911. He was an improvisational jazz pianist who financed his university studies with musical gigs and for a time kept a Hammond B3 organ in his home. Most visibly around Cranberry Lake and Saranac Lake, he was a lifelong general aviation pilot with floatplane, commercial and instructor ratings.
In addition to his family, he is survived by, and will be deeply missed by, many friends in Saranac Lake and Cranberry Lake.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Saranac Lake, NY 12983. Lutz’s immediate family will hold a funeral in Cranberry Lake cemetery and will hold a celebration of life in the spring of 2023.
