Jean Rogers

Jean Rogers, the sixth of 10 children, was born in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania on June 30, 1931. She was in at-home hospice care for six weeks when she died peacefully in her sleep on July 10, 2022.

Jean leaves behind her children Gloria Volz of Saranac Lake, Anthony Volz Jr. (wife Patty) of Croydon, Pennsylvania and Jean Rauscher (husband Ed) of Hamburg, Pennsylvania. She has eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many of her nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her son David Volz, her parents Iva and Henry Trago; her four sisters, Doris, Dot, Virginia and Donna; and her five brothers: Leroy, Russell, Bobby, Jim and Frank.

Jean lived most of her life in Pennsylvania, where her home was considered “Grand Central Station” and was open to everyone while her children were growing up. She was a favorite aunt to most of her nieces and nephews. When her kids were small and for many years after, Jean loved camping with her family. She was also a race car driver, which led her to become a NASCAR fan.

Upon moving to Saranac Lake with her daughter Gloria in 2010, Jean became a consistent member of the Saranac Lake Adult Center. She called it her home away from home. She couldn’t say enough about how much she loved Saranac Lake and its people. Her social life included activities at Will Rogers and the Saranac Lake Adult Center where she “met good friends and enjoyed great lunches” — her favorite being the spaghetti and garlic bread.

She was an avid fan of Elvis Presley. Jean loved playing bingo, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles. Yoga at the adult center each week and her exercise bike kept Jean in the best shape she could be.

Jean found fun wherever she was. Her smile and laughter showed genuine love and caring. Deeply devout, Jean was not a member of a congregation.

In lieu of flowers, Jean wishes donations be made to the Saranac Lake Adult Center, 136 Broadway, Saranac Lake, NY 12983. A celebration of Jean’s life will be held at the Saranac Lake Adult Center at a future date in July.
