Beatrice M. Harrington

Beatrice M. Harrington, nee Kniffen, passed away March 22, 2022.

Bea was born February 28, 1936, to Theodore and Emilia Kniffen.

An only child, she was raised in Harrington Park, New Jersey. She graduated high school from St. Cecilia in Englewood, New Jersey, and went on to attended Trapenhagen School of Art. She had a successful career as a fabric designer, traveling between Manhattan and the fabric mills in the Carolinas, always seeking the perfect shades of color. She continued to live in Harrington Park until 1975 when she moved to Saranac Lake.

Bea was always the artist and painted whenever she got the chance. Many of us are lucky to have one of her paintings. She loved Turtle Pond and enjoyed many swims and picnics with friends and family. Bea sang in the choir at St. Bernard’s and was a member of the Business and Professional Women Club for many years. She wintered in Daytona Beach, Florida for as many of the years allowed and loved having friends and family visit.

In her later years, she loved canoeing and fishing with her dear friend Steve, exploring many lakes and ponds. Bea welcomed anyone into her house for a livley conversation; from friends and relatives to the door-to-door salesman, all were welcome to stay and chat. Bea loved her pet cats throughout the years, all who were most comfortable on her lap, usually watching Downton Abbey. Everyone she met was “a beautiful person;” she, however, was the most beautiful of all.

She was adored and survived by her children Elizabeth Harrington (Tom Boylan), Mia Darrah (Ronald) and Francis Dennis Harrington Jr., and two grandchildren, Nicholas Darrah and Maggie Darrah.
