Mildred Galbraith
Mildred Irene Anthony Galbraith, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away on Friday, Feb. 11, 2022 at the age of 92. She was born Sept. 4, 1929, in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, to parents Ralph and Sara Anthony. She attended schools in the Canonsburg area and was chosen May Queen at Chartiers Township High School during her senior year. She graduated from Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh as a Registered Nurse in 1950. She married, had five children, and continued her education at the State University of New York College at Cortland, receiving B.S.E. and M.S.E. degrees in health education. She served both as an RN and as a health educator in Cortland and in Jacksonville, FL. In later years, she taught at both Florida State College at Jacksonville and James Weldon Johnson Middle School. Mildred was an expert seamstress and made dresses, coats and hats for her children as well as for herself.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, William Edgar Galbraith, her parents, brother Conwell Anthony, and granddaughter Dr. Adrienne Barnard-Whitford. She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Owlett. She is also survived by her loving daughters: Jane Palmer, Betsy O’Mara, Jill Barnard (Bruce), Nancy Richardson (Ben), and Merrie Welch; and her grandchildren: Brittany Palmer Carbone (Paul), Christopher O’Mara (Helen), Julie O’Mara, Hillary Barnard, Claire Richardson, Dane Richardson, Ryan Bonigut, Sarah Bonigut, and Kathleen Welch; as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Susan Hoffmann, Dr. Samer Garas, and the staff of the Windsor at San Pablo for their compassionate care.
A memorial service was held on Friday, Feb. 18, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Palms Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville Beach.
