Donald Kenneth Whittemore
Donald Kenneth Whittemore, 87, passed away on Monday, Aug. 30, 2021, at Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid.
Don was born in Lake Placid on May 3, 1934, the son of Kenneth and Fannie Southmayd Whittemore. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War era.
He was the former owner of Don’s Sunoco & U-Haul of Lake Placid. He was also a 20 year member of the Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department. Don was an avid bowler and an enthusiastic sports fan of the New York Yankees, and would always be seen wearing their baseball cap.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Jean Whittemore, and his wife, Victoria Whittemore. He is survived by his children, Kenneth Whittemore (Michele), Joseph Whittemore (Glenna), Andrew Whittemore (Mary) and Robert Whittemore (Allanna), his brother, Gary Whittemore, as well as six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held at the M. B. Clark, Funeral Home, in Lake Placid, Friday, Sept. 3 from 6 to 8 p.m. with an American Legion prayer service at 7:45 p.m. followed by a Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department prayer service.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. at the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid. Rev. David Foster will officiate. Burial will follow at North Elba Cemetery in Lake Placid.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department.
