Leslie Anne (Gladd) LaJoie

Leslie Anne (Gladd) LaJoie, 54, passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, after a courageous two-plus-year battle with cancer.

Born in Saranac Lake on Jan. 30, 1967, Leslie resided in Penfield at the time of her death. Leslie was a 1985 graduate of Saranac Lake High School and a 1991 graduate of SUNY Brockport (BA, Recreation Management). Retired as the result of her illness, Leslie was a beloved teacher at Generation of Fairport, a preschool in that community.

Leslie was married to her beloved husband of 28 years, Jim, on May 15, 1993, at Mountain Home Air Force Base, where they both worked, Jim as a technical sergeant in the Air Force and Leslie at the Recreation Center on base. Together they raised six children: daughters Cylie Bitler (Kainin, and their sons Karder, Kohen, Kingslee and Karson), Melody Timberlake (Coleman, and their daughters SylvieAnn and NoraKate and son Joseph), Sara, and Clare Rozek (Tim, and their daughter Molly), and sons Corey and Peter James. Leslie is also survived by her siblings Tom, (Michelle, and their sons Alec and Dylan, and daughter Samantha), Hilary Ross and her husband Peter, and Nancy McLaughlin (Derek, and their sons Kane, Ronald and Derek Jr. and daughter Marion). Leslie was predeceased by her parents Marty and Ron Gladd. In addition to her immediate family, Leslie is survived by many additional nieces and nephews, along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. An immensely kind and loving woman, Leslie embraced all the members of her large family, along with countless friends collected from all parts of the country.

For those wishing to remember Leslie, a wake will be held on Sunday, May 23 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Jennings, Nulton & Mattle Funeral Home, 1704 Penfield Road, Penfield, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Penfield, at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 24. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Penfield. A celebration of life will be held at the Irondequoit Bay Fish & Game Club (658 Bay Front Lane, South, Rochester, NY 14609) from 1 to 4 p.m. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family has asked that donations be made to a trust fund established in Leslie’s name at Generation of Fairport.
