Emma L. Berghorn

She was born on Sept. 26, 1930 in Alderbrook, the daughter of the late James and Mary (McCaffrey) Law. Emma married Alex Helak in 1966 in Saranac Lake, and he unfortunately passed shortly after in 1967. She married Delmar Berghorn on Oct. 9, 1980. He predeceased her on Oct. 20, 2008.

Emma was a proud lifelong resident of Saranac Lake. She worked as an aide at Ray Brook sanitorium, Sunmount and various group homes throughout the Tri-Lakes area. She took pride in her work and cared for people throughout her life.

Emma is survived by too many nieces and nephews to name.

Emma was preceded in death by her brothers: James John, Francis, Raymond, Charles and Steven Law; and her sisters: Marie Wood and Margaret Kenny.

The family would like to especially thank Joey Kelly whom managed her nursing staff, Mary Kay, Sally, Shannon, Carrol, Amanda, Morgan, Amber and “Little” Emma for enabling Emma to keep her independence for as long as she did.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Calling hours will be held at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake on Monday, July 27 at 10 a.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Bernard’s Church at 11 a.m. with burial immediately following in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Saranac Lake. The Rev. Patrick Ratigan will be officiating. Family and friends wishing to remember Emma L. Berghorn may make memorial contributions to the Saranac Lake Adult Center in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church St., Saranac Lake, NY 12983.
