Virginia Switzer

Virginia Lucille Switzer, 92, of Loon Lake, died Friday, April 3, 2020, at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Westbury, Wayne County, on March 11, 1928, she was the daughter of Jay and Minnie (Lapp) Farrow. Virginia married John “Jack” Switzer on Tuesday, Feb. 7, 1967, in Athens, Pennsylvania. He predeceased her on Nov. 15, 1996.

Virginia has been a resident of Loon Lake since 1975, coming from Sodus. She had been employed as a telephone operator for New York Telephone Company for many years. Virginia and her husband Jack had owned and operated a general store in Loon Lake for four years. She was well known in her community by many dear friends. She loved to bake and share fresh homemade “goodies” with all who came to visit.

She is survived by two daughters: Sandra Osterhout of Webster and Andrea Hill of Ontario, New York; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Private calling hours and funeral services took place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home for her immediate family on Sunday with the Rev. Eric Olsen officiating. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date to be announced. Burial will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Geneva.
