Terrie J. Rice

Her independent and soulful spirit was born to Leon and Elinor Umber in Lake Placid in 1932.

An accomplished artist, writer, wife, mother, musician, sister, daughter and aunt, she leaves behind her children Steven Herbst (partner Donna Baker Elliot), Susan Rice, Sandra Denis (partner Rob Wilson), Stephanie Czerniak, and Alison and Bill Paff, her sister Linda Blair of Lake Placid, and her beloved nieces and nephews. Terrie gifted her artistic talents, many family recipes, and love of music to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren Jessica Herbst, Casey Denis, Brenna and Liam Rice, Nichole Shelly Gentry, Parker and Tyler Czerniak, Chase and Emma Paff, Isabella Stiles, Noah, Rylan, and Cruz Zapata.

She was an avid voter and fought to keep the spirit of independence, respect and love of humanity alive through her prolific political writings. There were few hurdles that Terrie could not surmount, few puzzles that she could not solve, and there was never a moment that she was not seeking to learn something new or teach something to the people she loved.

There will be no services or calling hours, just a mindful thought of how wonderful it is to sit under the warm New York summer sun: picking blueberries in Lake Placid, fishing in Long Lake and enjoying homemade raspberry jam.
