Lorraine (Bannerman) Edgley

Lorraine (Bannerman) Edgley, 87, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017.

Lorraine was born June 12, 1930 in Lake Placid, the daughter of Campbell A. Bannerman and Sadie Preston Bannerman Griggs.

She was a lifelong resident of Lake Placid, growing up as the middle of three close sisters. Lorraine graduated from the Lake Placid High School in 1948 and attended her 69th class reunion this past June.

Lorraine married her high school classmate and sweetheart David Edgley on Sept. 3, 1949, at the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid. They shared a wonderful life and embraced raising their two children together.

Lorraine went to work for the New York Telephone Company right after high school, and enjoyed working there for nearly 20 years as a telephone operator. She then spent several years working at The Swiss Shop in Lake Placid before starting her new career at the Bank of Lake Placid/NBT.

Over the years, she forged many lasting friendships with her coworkers. Lorraine’s greatest joy was her family, which she lovingly nurtured and watched grow, with the addition of grandchildren and then great grandchildren. She was always interested in what everyone was doing, attended all events, helped organize family gatherings and tried hard to keep tabs on everyones’ schedules, not an easy task.

She gave her full support, encouragement and love through her gentle and positive attitude. Lorraine was often the life of the party and she could be counted on to bring her famous Butter Fudge Fingers. She reminisced about learning to play pinochle as a youngster, and continued to enjoy many card nights with her family.

Lorraine is survived by her husband Dave, married almost 68 years; her children: a son Ron and his wife Beth, a daughter, Cindy Gallagher and her companion John Mathiason; three granddaughters: Kirsten Edgley and her companion Donovan DeMacy, Erika Edgley Bailey and her husband Lowell, and Holli Edgley and her husband Chris Neill; and three precious great-granddaughters: Etta and Gwen Neill and Ophelia Bailey. She was dubbed “Great Lorraine” by 3-year-old Etta, which really says it all. She is also survived by her sister Millie VanCour and her husband Stanley, as well as in-laws, nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, as well as her sister Winnie VanCour and son-in-law Jim Gallagher.

A memorial service and celebration of her life will by held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, at the Adirondack Community Church in Lake Placid with a reception to follow in Erdman Hall. There will be no calling hours.

The M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid is in charge of arrangements.
