Mabel E. Hunting

Mabel E. Hunting passed to her eternal reward Sunday, March 8, 2015 from her daughter’s home in Lake Placid, after a period of declining health.

Mabel was born Sept. 9, 1920 in Oakham, Mass. to the late Henry W. and Evelyn (Clifford) Grimes. She graduated from Barre High School, Barre, Massachusetts in 1938 and married Joseph L. Hunting Nov. 11, 1939. He predeceased her Oct. 24, 2003.

After her husband returned from overseas duty in World War II (1946), she attended Marion College, Marion, Indiana.

Mabel was a homemaker and pastor’s wife, faithfully serving alongside her husband in several pastorates in Indiana, Pennsylvania, New York and Massachusetts. Their ministry spanned 55 years, mostly with the Pilgrim Holiness Church of New York Inc.

Known for her artistic abilities, Mrs. Hunting complemented her husband’s ministry with her chalk art and child evangelism. She was passionate about flowers, especially African Violets and hybrid lilies, often sharing their beauty with others.

Mabel is survived by three daughters: Paulette Fay, Lake Placid, Joanna (David) Howell, Mt. Pleasant Mills, Pennsylvania and Faith (Emmett) Wakefield, Hobe Sound, Florida; a son, Wesley (Diane) Hunting, Salem, Ohio; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Wallace C. Grimes, E. Brookfield, Massachusetts; two sisters: Grace E. White, Woodlands, Texas and Eva F. Grimes, Oakham, Massachusetts; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased in death by her brother, son, grandson, and son-in-law.

Mabel leaves a legacy of prayer and faith.

Calling hours will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, March 11 at the M. B. Clark, Inc. Funeral Home in Lake Placid, as well as one hour previous to the service at the church. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 12 at the Pilgrim Holiness Church, Sentinel Rd., Lake Placid with the Rev. William Saxton officiating. Burial will be in Edinburg Cemetery, Edinburg in the spring.
