Helen C. Eldrett

Miss Helen C. Eldrett, 75, of Perch Lake Road, Watertown, passed away at her home under the care of her twin sister Mary and Hospice of Jefferson County.

Helen was born Jan. 6, 1940, in Saranac Lake, the daughter of Donald and Janet Sprague Eldrett. She graduated from Saranac Lake High School and Plattsburgh State Teachers College with a master’s degree in education. She moved to Brownville in 1973 and taught fifth grade at General Brown Central School Elementary at Brownville-Glen Park. She retired in 1995 after teaching 33 years.

Helen was member of the First United Methodist Church of Watertown, where she sang in the choir for 50 years, NYSUT, NEA and AARP. She loved music and the Northern Choral Society, and her wildlife refuge of 183 acres in Brownville, and she enjoyed raising ducks as pets.

Helen is survived by her twin sister Mary; nieces Sandra Mitchem of St. George Island, Florida, Karen Eldrett of Syracuse and Lisa Lucio of Solvay; five grandnieces; one grandnephew; three great-grandnephews; and an aunt, Audrey Personius of Lake Placid.

Helen was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Robert Eldrett.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 6 at the first United Methodist Church of Watertown with the Rev. Jeff Nowak officiating. A spring burial will be held in Saranac Lake.
