Anna M. Vagen

Anna Marie Van Den Berg Vagen died peacefully Monday, Aug. 25, 2014 in her home at Loon Lake, with her family at her side.

Her husband of 51 years, Hans Vagen, passed away in 1999.

Anna was born Sept. 25, 1926, in the Netherlands, and together, with her family, survived the Nazi occupation.

She met and married her husband Hans, and they traveled the world together as officers on an oil tanker. Together with their infant daughter, they immigrated to the United States in 1953.

Throughout her life, Anna was active in the Lutheran church and enjoyed singing in the choir. She also enjoyed volunteering with the Girl Scouts. Anna loved to take road trips including a cross-country trip in a camper and many day trips with her grandchildren.

Anna was fluent in the Dutch, Norwegian, German and English languages and loved to read.

She is survived by her children: Evelyn and Edward Thompson of Cinnaminson, New Jersey, Erik-Hans and Kathleen Vagen of Hazlet, New Jersey, Elizabeth and Jacque Bacque of Loon Lake and Timothy and Tara Vagen of Kent, Washington.

She was known to many as Oma and was a loving grandmother to Jacky, Soleil and Danielle Bacque and Leo Millen, Erik Philip and Lauren, Kristina, Kevin and Katie, Drew and Emma Vagen. She was great-grandmother to Annabelle Vagen.

She will be forever loved and cherished as a mother and grandmother. Anna will be buried in a family gravesite in New Jersey.
