Mary Lou Douglas

Mary Lou Douglas, 75, of AuSable Forks, passed away peacefully with the presence of family on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014.

Mary Lou was the daughter of the late Edith Southmayd. She was predeceased by her husband Urgil of 50 years, two brothers and one sister.

Mary Lou worked many years at the Uihlein nursing home in the arts and crafts department. You could find “Lou” reading, crafting, on the beach in Florida or at a yard sale on a weekend summer day. Mary Lou was an animal lover, a jewelry connoisseur and an avid QVC shopper.

Mary Lou is survived by her three children: Kevin and Gene Gilbert of AuSable Forks, Kirtis Douglas and Whitney Riggs of Hobe Sound, Fla. and Donna and Gary Ottavinia of Wilmington; five grandchildren: Damion (Knikki) Gilbert, Gretchen Gilbert (Tim), Cassidy (Adam) Garrow, Nicole Ottavinia (Jerrad) and Anthony Ottavinia; and eight beautiful great-grandchildren: Logan, Ryelyn, Darian, Morgan, Lauren, Jordyn, Kameron and Emma; and her two best friends: Jeannie Lawrence of Florida and Sister Coradatta of Watertown.

A warm and blessed “thank you” to Cassidy and Adam Garrow for allowing Mary Lou to be amazingly loved and comforted during the past three years.

There will be no calling hours. A service will be held at the Holy Name Church in AuSable Forks at 10 a.m. Tuesday Jan. 21. A celebration of life will follow at the American Legion in AuSable Forks.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of the North Country.
