A colorful 2019 ArtWalk finale tonight

SARANAC LAKE — The final Third Thursday ArtWalk of 2019 goes out with lots of panache both on and off the road. As the autumn colors begin to engulf the Adirondack landscape, merchants, visual artists and performing artists give residents and travelers another reason to walk the streets of downtown Saranac Lake tonight.

With more than 60 participating artists and businesses, there will be plenty to see and do. Third Thursday Art Walks run from 5 to 7:30 p.m. along Main Street, Broadway, Woodruff Street, Bloomingdale Avenue, Church Street, and Cedar Street in Saranac Lake. More than 30 artists are paired with sponsoring businesses and organizations, demonstrating that the area is a great arts community as well as a fun place to shop. These artists encompass every medium imaginable, from musicians and writers to jewelry makers, painters, woodcarvers, glassblowers and craftspeople. There is something for every age and every taste.

Acoustic duo Rock N’ Lil will be located at Berkeley Green playing and singing bluegrass and classic rock. Nearby at Hotel Saranac, Marisa and Jeff Dupra will be showcasing modern dance, storytelling and songs outside the hotel. Just inside the hotel, guests and visitors may experience the performance art of Glenn Burnett, who plays, sings and recounts his dynamic personal history. The Rustic Riders will be making their musical magic in front of the SLove Health Club at 69 Main St.

Vocalist, guitarist and instrument-maker Bruce Thompson will be on hand outside Left Bank Cafe, while Ginny West and her husband Ken will entertain on hammered dulcimer and autoharp inside the Cape Air building. Indoors at Nori’s will be an art opening as well as live musician Connor Celeste on guitar and vocals.

Outdoor open mic continues at The Rusty Nail, and Eco Living will feature Felista Gallagher with her cards and dream-building expertise. Other participants in the September ArtWalk include: woodcarver Mark Paul at Blue Moon Restaurant and visual artists at Edward Jones, Post Office Pharmacy, Romano’s Saranac Lanes, Main Street Exchange, and the Adirondack Center for Loon Conservation. Writers on the Walk include George Bryzak, Yvona Fast, Caperton Tissot, Michael Northrup and Amanda Bogardus. There will be jewelry makers, a glassblower, and more fun to be found lining the streets of Saranac Lake.

The Saranac Lake Library is new to the 2019 ArtWalk, featuring the Cosmic Studio Art Exhibit in the Cantwell Room, and BluSeed Studios will host a preview of the “Family Palette” exhibit which opens the following evening. Art at the Pink House, NorthWind Fine Arts and the Adirondack Artist Guild will all be open to share demonstrations and exhibits. Participants on the Walk may also check out “The Art of the Cure” exhibit at Historic Saranac.

The ArtWalk will take place whatever the weather, as most of the participating businesses will invite artists and performers inside should the weather prove a challenge.

The mission of the ArtWalks is to stimulate business, draw attention to downtown Saranac Lake, and encourage community spirit through the presentation of visual, performing and literary arts by artists who live and work in the North Country.

Artists or businesses interested in participating next year should contact the Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce or Saranac Lake ArtWorks at 518-891-3799 or admin@bluseedstudios.org.
