SARANAC LAKE – Pendragon Theatre is kicking off its 40th season with the comedy “Native Gardens,” by Karen Zacarias, a play that DC Metro calls “a bloomin’ hysterical comedy” and that asks us just how much we love our neighbors.

“Native Gardens,” opening this Friday, June 21 at 8 p.m., is directed by Kimberley A. Bouchard, artistic director at Pendragon, and features local favorite actors Fran Yardley and Burdette Parks, as well as Anthony Irizarry, last seen in Pendragon’s 2017 production of “Disgraced,” and New York City-based actress Jacqueline Salvador. Pablo (Irizarry), a high-powered lawyer, and Tania (Salvador), a doctoral candidate and his very pregnant wife, are realizing the American dream when they purchase a house next door to community stalwarts Virginia (Yardley) and Frank (Parks). But a disagreement over a long-standing fence line soon spirals into an all-out war of taste, class, privilege, and entitlement.

“In these times, that are often characterized as divided and angry, the Theatre provides a space for everyone to come together and laugh, cry, think and wonder,” said Director Bouchard. “The comedy Native Gardens is in the long tradition of plays that create a way for us to observe ourselves, laugh at our flaws and appreciate our goodness.”

Set and costume design is by Kent Streed, and lighting and sound is designed by Michael Friedman.

“Native Gardens” opens this Friday at 8 p.m. and runs through July 12 with 2 p.m. matinees on June 23 and 30.

“Talk Backs” occur after each matinee.

There will be an opening reception after Friday’s performance.

Adult ticket prices range from $20 for matinees and $30 for evening performances. Additionally, the theatre is unveiling a new pricing of $20 for all shows for locals who live within the 129** zip codes.

“Native Gardens” is sponsored by the Hotel Saranac.
