Hobo’s Campfire Music Friday on the railroad

The Adirondack Scenic Railroad continues its weekly live music on the train Friday, July 29 with Paul John West.

West is a native of northern New York.

His early musical influences included rock and roll and other ’50s pop music. With the British rock invasion of the ’60s came the inspiration to learn guitar, but interest in folk, blues, and bluegrass music resulted in a preference for more acoustic sounds.

West also enjoys the music of American songwriters of the ’20s and ’30s. His own songwriting reflects these many influences.

He has a large repertoire of train songs. He performed at the “Save the Rails” rally at the Union Depot in Saranac Lake last fall.

West will perform four sets, beginning with the 10:30 a.m. train from Lake Placid to Saranac Lake. The second Lake Placid departure is at 2:30 p.m.

Saranac Lake departures are at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Round trip tickets at $19, with discounts for groups, Seniors, and children ages 2 to 12 years old. Children under 2 ride for free.

Next week, songwriter Doug Irving returns to the Hobo’s Campfire.
