Towne Meeting at Saranac Village at Will Rogers

SARANAC LAKE – Towne Meeting will perform standard fare with a hint of the holiday season at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Saranac Village at Will Rogers.

Oriented in folk, Towne Meeting is a five-member ensemble performing Americana, acoustic rock and some country.

Formed in 2006, Towne Meeting features Dennis Hulbert, vocals and guitar; Miles Moody, vocals and guitar; Gary VanCour, vocals, guitar, ukulele and percussion; Rich Sutphen, vocals, guitar and mandolin and John Kains, base and vocals.

“Three of us were heavily influenced by the folk era of the 1960s, so we like to play some of the old standards of that time along with more recent tunes,” Gary VanCour said. “Towne is an old New England name that is part of the family lineage. Every year there would be a Towne family reunion, which usually would end up with guitars and sing-a-longs. It seemed appropriate to name the band Towne Meeting as it symbolizes folks coming together and having a good time.”

Towne Meeting’s first CD, entitled “Stillwater” was released in 2008 and continues to be a top seller. It includes several familiar songs as well as original works.

The group’s second album, “A Christmas World,” was released in 2009 and features holiday favorites and traditional carols.

The third CD is “Looking Back,” and was released in 2010.

Their 2013 “Live in Concert” CD is a compilation of songs recorded at various performances.

“Most of all we really enjoy singing and playing as a group and have a lot of fun with it,” Dennis Hulbert said. “We especially enjoy doing live performances. That camaraderie is very apparent when we are on stage.” “Journeys,” their most recent CD, will be released this fall.

This program is open to the public and a $5 donation is requested.
