Results delayed in NY-22 election

OSWEGO (AP) — A state judge has ordered a hold on the certification of election results in the tight race for a New York congressional district that stretches from Lake Ontario to the Pennsylvania border.

A state supreme court judge in Oswego County issued an injunction on Tuesday blocking all the eight counties included in the 22nd Congressional District from certifying results.

Republican Claudia Tenney is vying to reclaim her seat in Congress from incumbent U.S. Rep. Anthony Brindisi, the Democrat.

WSYR-TV reports Tenney has a slight lead over Brindisi by as many as 200 votes. Brindisi had defeated Tenney by fewer than 4,500 votes in 2018.

The judge’s order came after a request from an attorney for Tenney’s campaign. More legal motions are due Monday.

Attorneys for both candidates questioned county election officials in court Tuesday about how they handled absentee and affidavit ballots, and whether sticky notes used to mark questioned ballots in Oneida County were still attached once sent to court.
