Harrietstown GOP caucus tonight
Town supervisor, councilmembers, clerk, justice and highway superintendent positions up for election in November
SARANAC LAKE — Harrietstown Republicans will caucus tonight at 6:30 p.m. in the Harrietstown Town Hall auditorium to nominate candidates to run in the Nov. 4 general election for a number of town seats.
This year, Harrietstown residents will vote to elect a supervisor, two councilmembers, a clerk, a justice and a superintendent of highways.
Both major political parties are planning caucuses to select candidates to represent their party lines on the ballot.
Members of the GOP will select their candidates at the caucus tonight.
Harrietstown Democrats will caucus on July 8 at 6 p.m. in the town hall auditorium.
Harrietstown Republican Chair Bob Bevilacqua said he’s received several letters of interest from people planning to run already.
Incumbent town Supervisor Jordanna Mallach is seeking GOP endorsement. Incumbent councilman Johnny Williams is, too, as is former town Highway Superintendent Craig Donaldson. Incumbent town Clerk Sabrina Harrison, incumbent Justice Allan Wright and incumbent Highway Superintendent Daniel Martin are all throwing their hats back in the ring.
The two town council seats up for election are Williams’ and Tracey Schrader’s. The Enterprise was not able to reach Schrader by publication of this article to ask if she is planning to run for reelection.
Bevilacqua mentioned that Harrison and Wright are the only registered Republicans of these candidates, so they’ll be able to give speeches. Because of party rules, the others will not be able to speak since they are not Republicans. However, registered Republicans can speak on their behalf.
Mallach, the Democratic chair, said she has not received any letters of intent from Democratic candidate hopefuls yet, but there is still two weeks before that party’s caucus. She plans to seek both major party lines, herself.
The last day to file to hold a caucus is June 24 at 5 p.m. At least 10 days of notice must be given to the county before a caucus is held.
