LAKE PLACID — Cowboys, cunning and crazy comedy hit the stage last month at the Lake Placid High School.
The students put on a production of “Crazy for You,” a romantic comedy adapted from George and Ira Gershwins’ 1930 musical “Girl Crazy.” Between March 19 and 21, they put on three night shows and one matinee.
Bobby Child, a zany rich boy New York City banker played by junior Trey Mariano, arrives in Deadrock, Nevada to foreclose a rundown theater. He meets hometown girl Polly Baker, the theater owner’s daughter played by junior Elliana Cash, and falls for her. But she doesn’t fall for him.
“Bobby vows through cunning, razzmatazz and a hilarious case of mistaken identity to win Polly’s heart and save the theater,” according to the playbill.
Senior Sophie Spanburgh, who plays Tess, called it one of the most meaningful shows she’s ever done.

“From being a freshman, looking up to the seniors to being one of the seniors that other kids look up to has been such a full circle moment,” she said in a statement.
Spanburgh said she’s sad to leave after graduation, but is excited about the new freshmen who are “taking our theater department by storm.”
“All of the late nights and early mornings were truly worth it on opening night,” she said. “I will cherish every rehearsal and every Boot Camp for long after high school and I will remember all the lessons from this theater department very well as I continue on.”
Senior Savannah Corrow, who plays Irene Roth, said this year had one of the strongest casts she’s ever been a part of — from the leads to every ensemble character.
“I’ve gained so many connections I will hate to leave behind, but I can’t wait to come back to support all of my friends!” she said. “‘Crazy for You’ has been quite the experience!”

“The countless hours spent rehearsing have been long and hard on everyone in the cast, but we have had a blast working on this show,” Corrow said in a statement.
The cast included Jesse Carlson, Sophia Thomsen, James Guglielmi, Kiera Bouchard, Ava White, Silas Marshall and Danica Vassar.
Ceatten Lewis, Griffin McComber and Charles Rumble made up the Cowboy Trio.
The Follies Girls and dancers were Avory Lamoy, Aurora Brunner, August Hollrock, Raquel Arreaza-Salazar, Grace Corliss and Echo Staves.
The Ensemble included Aleena Verdugo, Chase Meeks, Adelaide Miller, Mya Marshall, Johnylin Corrow, Stella Hoffman, Calie Friedrick and Lilyan Powers.
