SARANAC LAKE — Juniors and seniors in the Building Trades program at the Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES Adirondack Educational Center are nearing completion of the construction of a concession stand for a collaborative project with the Saranac Lake Central School District.

The concession stand is being constructed for the Saranac Lake Central School District. According to building trades instructor Michael Martin, construction began late January and once completed, the stand will be installed by the multi-use athletic field at the Saranac Lake High School.

“This project highlights the incredible value of hands-on learning. The students didn’t just build a concession stand, they built skills, confidence and something our entire Saranac Lake school community will benefit from for years to come,” AEC principal Kurt Munson said.

The 8 feet by 27 feet trailer will feature a self-contained kitchen that will comply with health department regulations. It will have a 50 amp service with a hot water heater, grey water tank, flat top grill with hood, a 3-bay sink, a handwashing sink, a counter with storage, a drink cooler and fridge/freezer combo preparation table.

“We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with FEH BOCES and the Building Trades program,” SLCSD Superintendent Diane Fox said. “This is truly a win-win where students gain a meaningful, hands-on experience, and our district benefits from a thoughtfully constructed addition to our campus in a very cost-effective way. This is the kind of work that reflects the best of our community: students learning by doing, strong regional partnerships, and a shared investment in creating spaces where our students and families can connect.”

Fox added that the stand’s inaugural season will be this fall once the school year begins. “It’s always rewarding to see student work come to life in such a visible and meaningful way,” Fox said.

Starting at $3.92/week.
