Sugary start-up
Wild Center staff and volunteers smile in front of the Mobile Sugar Shack on Sunday in Tupper Lake. As maple syrup season begins, the museum spent much of the day assembling the building and its equipment so that sap processing and boiling can begin. From left, Steve Eldred, Greg Simkiss, Andy Allen, Brenna Fuller and Anthony Yourdon. The Wild Center is continuing its Community Maple Program this year, where anyone who lives within a five-mile radius of the museum can tap their own trees, drop off the sap and Wild Center staff and volunteers will boil it to syrup -- with each contributing member entitled to 70% of the syrup that's made from their sap, at no charge.
