NYSPHA announces climate workshop in Lake Placid

LAKE PLACID — New York State Public Health Association’s Climate Committee will present “Climate Communications Through the Arts: Sparking Community Engagement” at High Peaks Resort on on April 22.

“Climate Communications Through the Arts” coincides with the 56th anniversary of Earth Day and New York State Public Health Association’s Annual Public Health Partnership Conference. The day is designed to be fun, immersive and educational and will connect climate data and creative expression to climate actions. It also creates networking opportunities for businesses, nonprofits and foundations to meet climate leaders, educators, artists, students and elected officials.

Program highlights Include:

“Homo Sapiens,” a short play written by playwright Chantal Bilodeau, founder of Arts and Climate.

“A Hard Rains’ Gonna Fall,” an interactive storytelling workshop around extreme flooding, designed and led by Cornell public health professor Danielle Eiseman with Kim Knowlton, NYSPHA/Third Act, and Indigenous artist and storyteller Dave Fadden.

Keynote address “What You Need to Know About Climate Change: Evidence and Hope,” visually and simply explained by Paul Smith’s College professor Curt Stager.

“Fiber Arts Tells a Climate Story,” concurrent hands-on workshops by noted academics who are also talented artists.

A youth panel on the Wild Center’s pioneering Youth Climate Summit, including a discussion of what it’s like growing up with climate change in the North Country.
