Rangers brave brutal cold to find lost hiker on Gothics

Forest rangers with the state Department of Environmental Conservation responded to one call in the Adirondacks last week involving a hiker who was lost on one of the trails to Gothics, the 10th-tallest mountain in the state. The hiker was found in good condition, despite dangerously cold temperatures on Saturday night, when the rescue took place.

Night search finds hiker lost on Gothics

KEENE — The Johns Brook Lodge winter caretaker called 911 requesting forest ranger assistance with a hiker on Gothics Mountain at 8:50 p.m. on Saturday. The 42-year-old went hiking with a group that morning but became separated and lost. Seven rangers responded and at 11 p.m., located the subject in good health, off trail and making their way out of the woods. Rangers assisted the hiker back to the lodge to reunite with the rest of the group. Resources were clear at 1:15 a.m.
