One injured following car fire and crash on state Route 3

HARRIETSTOWN — A car engulfed in flames and a subsequent two-car motor vehicle crash on state Route 3 on Wednesday morning resulted in one injury that required medical transport. There were no reported deaths.
State Police responded to the crash at 10:46 a.m. It occurred about a half mile west of the intersection with the Bartlett Carry Road. State Police had incident command, and were joined by the Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake volunteer fire departments.
State Police said that a 2018 Nissan sedan traveling eastbound on state Route 3 observed a Jeep Liberty parked in the eastbound lane that was engulfed in flames. State Police did not provide any information on what caused the car fire. Upon seeing the flames, the operator of the Nissan activated her hazard lights and stopped to attempt to assist the operator of the disabled vehicle.
A second vehicle, a 2021 Toyota traveling eastbound, subsequently lost visibility and collided with the rear of the Nissan, according to State Police. The Nissan sustained heavy rear-end damage with airbag deployment. The Toyota sustained heavy front passenger-side damage with airbag deployment.
The operator of the Nissan, Anna G. Sillas Medina, of Vermont, was evaluated at the scene by EMS and refused medical transport, according to State Police. The operator of the Toyota, Frederick J. Lamere, of Tupper Lake, was transported by Tupper Lake Volunteer Ambulance and Emergency Squad to the Adirondack Medical Center. State Police did not provide any further details on the injury.

State Police said there were no injuries or deaths from the car that had caught fire. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
The crash shut down both lanes of traffic on state Route 3 from its intersection with Edgewood Road in Saranac Lake to the intersection with state Route 30 further west in the town of Harrietstown. Traffic was rerouted on state Route 30 and county Route 18. State Police did not provide a time when the road reopened.
The Tupper Lake Volunteer Fire Department responded with a tanker truck and 16 members. The department also provided traffic control at the state Routes 3 and 30 intersection. TLVFD was back in service at 12:30 p.m. SLVFD did not specify how many trucks or members responded.
The Lake Placid Volunteer Fire Department stood by at the SLVFD fire station with one truck and six members.
