INDIAN LAKE — The Indian Lake Theater has announced the installation of a brand-new digital marquee, a major upgrade that will transform how the theater connects with audiences and the wider community. The new sign will allow the theater to better promote its movies, live events, and community programs.
Theater board members and community volunteers began exploring ways to replace the existing sign as early as 2019. With designs drafted years ago, the project was initially approved by the town of Indian Lake Zoning Board but then put on hold by theater leadership until funding could be secured.
In 2024, the Indian Lake Theater was awarded a capital grant from the New York State Council on the Arts, which, along with private gifts, helped make the project come to life. Additionally, Daniel Russell Electrical Services and Gore Electric Services LLC completed the electrical work, and Scott Burlingame, P.E. of SB Engineering, PLLC, donated his time to ensure that the theater building was structurally sound.
“This new marquee is more than just a physical sign — it’s a symbol of progress, creativity and the spirit of our community,” said Mary Alice O’Connor, Executive Director of the Indian Lake Theater. “For years, we’ve dreamed of a way to share our events and messages in a more dynamic way. Now, as you drive through town, you’ll see a sign that reflects the excitement and energy happening inside the theater and throughout our community.”
The new digital sign not only enhances visibility for the theater’s film screenings and live events but also strengthens its role as a hub for communication, culture and connection. For local businesses, the marquee will open new sponsorship opportunities, ensuring that every message shared helps sustain both the theater and the wider local economy.
As the theater continues to grow and serve the community, donations are still being accepted to support this project and other ongoing improvements. Contributions can be made at www.indianlaketheater.org/donate or by contacting the theater directly.
