Tire malfunction causes fatal motorcycle crash on Northway

NORTH HUDSON — A rear tire malfunction caused a fatal motorcycle crash Friday evening near exit 29 on Interstate 87.

State Police responded to a report of a single-vehicle motorcycle crash at 8:22 p.m. Friday, according to Troop B Public Information Officer Trooper Brandi Ashley. It was being driven by Gary W. Nadeau, 59, of Terryville, Connecticut.

Initial medical assistance was provided at the scene by Schroon Lake EMS. Ashley said that while being transported to Glens Falls Hospital by Schroon Lake EMS, Nadeau died from his injuries.

Nadeau was operating a green 2023 Indian Motorcycle Company Chief, according to Ashley. A State Police investigation determined that while riding, the rear tire malfunctioned. This caused the motorcycle to fall onto its left side, ejecting Nadeau.

State Police did not state what may have caused the tire malfunction. Nadeau was traveling northbound prior to the crash.

A previous version of the article had the incorrect date for the crash. State Police actually responded to the crash at 8:22 p.m. Friday, not 8:22 p.m. Saturday. The Enterprise regrets the error.
