Gaffney is September featured artist at Guild

‘Evening Lily,’ encaustic on paper (Provided artwork)

SARANAC LAKE — Georgeanne Gaffney is the featured artist for the month of September at the Adirondack Artists Guild.

“September Song” celebrates Gaffney’s favorite time of the year. Lured by the cool, fresh mountain air while on vacation in the Adirondacks 20 years ago, she and her husband relocated from their home state of Maryland to make a new home in Saranac Lake. The pieces in this exhibit reflect Georgeanne’s love of the colors and textures of the region’s bogs, trails, mountains, rivers and lakes. Never forgetting her early love of the seaside, however, Georgeanne spends part of each September in Cape Cod, another landscape whose beauty is also frequently reflected in her paintings.

Best known for her acrylic paintings on wood panels, Gaffney has been challenging herself to experiment with different mediums and work in a looser, more impressionistic style than she usually does. This show will include Georgeanne’s works on paper in watercolor, encaustic, pastel and pen and ink alongside oil and acrylic paintings.

“September Song” will be displayed from Friday though Sept. 30, with an opening reception 5 to 7 p.m. Friday.

Starting at $3.92/week.
