SARANAC LAKE — Kids of all ages will get to explore big trucks and emergency vehicles, learn how they work and sit in the driver’s seat at the third annual Touch-a-Truck event hosted by the Saranac Lake Civic Center on Sunday, Sept. 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A special noise-free hour will run from 10 to 11 a.m. to accommodate children with noise sensitivities, making the event inclusive for all.
This family-friendly event will feature a wide variety of big trucks, emergency vehicles, heavy equipment and more — brought in by police and fire departments, local municipalities, contractors and businesses. Attendees can explore the vehicles up close, sit in the driver’s seat and enjoy a day packed with hands-on fun, educational demonstrations, food vendors and other activities.
“Being part of the Touch-a-Truck event is a great way for us to connect with the community in a positive, fun setting, rather than during an emergency,” said Fire Chief Michael Knapp of the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department. “It’s also an opportunity to educate kids early about fire safety while introducing them to our equipment. They absolutely love it.”
Admission is $5 in advance online or $8 at the door, with proceeds benefiting the nonprofit Saranac Lake Civic Center. Funds raised will support community programming such as public skating and help maintain the facility.
“Touch-a-Truck is a great event that brings people out to the Civic Center,” Harrietstown Supervisor Jordanna Mallach said. “It is always fun to see how excited the children are to climb on the trucks and equipment.”
Vehicle participants and sponsors are still welcome. Tickets and more information can be found at www.saranaclakeciviccenter.org/touchatruck or call 518-637-7401.
