SARANAC LAKE — Summer is in full swing at the Tri-Lakes Humane Society as the shelter is set to host its annual Bow Wow Meow Luau Fundraiser.

It will take place at the Mount Pisgah Recreation Center for the first time this year. The event will run from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday. The Bow Wow Meow Luau is slated to feature live music by Andy Walkow and a performance by Vestopia Hoops. There’ll be a silent auction, with items donated by the Mirror Lake Inn, Hotel Saranac, Anne’s Crepes, Upper Saranac Marina, The Wild Center and other local businesses and organizations.

There’ll be food and drinks, raffles and other tropical-themed sources of entertainment, with guests encouraged to show up in tropical or luau attire. The proceeds will support the Tri-Lakes Humane Society, which just began construction to ensure it is in compliance with new state shelter regulations that will go into effect in December 2026. The luau is one of the shelter’s biggest annual fundraisers, second only to its annual ADK Bark in the Park, which takes place in the fall.

Tri-Lakes Humane Society Shelter Director Tori Tanner said fundraising is especially important this year, as the construction is costly, but mandatory in order for the shelter to stay in operation.

“We’re working hard to ensure we’re fully compliant,” she wrote. “These upgrades are essential to keep our doors open and continue serving animals in need.”

Tanner added the construction is scheduled for completion by Oct. 31 and during that time, the heavy noise and activity can pose extra stress on animals. To alleviate that, the humane society has been promoting its foster program for people to temporarily care for some of its animals. More information can be found at tinyurl.com/mrxjem6b.

Unlike Bark in the Park, pets are not permitted at the luau, according to Tanner. She said this is done to help maintain a safe and comfortable experience for all guests.

“If you’re on the fence about attending — please come!” she wrote. “Every dollar raised goes directly toward helping animals in need, especially now as we take on these costly but necessary renovations. Your support makes a real difference.”

Tickets start at $50 and can be purchased in advance online at tinyurl.com/397ckv47, in-person at the shelter, by phone at 518-891-0017 during the shelter’s regular hours or at the door Saturday evening.

Starting at $19.00/week.
