11th annual Turkey Trot returns to Tupper Lake
TUPPER LAKE — The 11th annual Erin Farkas Dewyea Turkey Trot is back this year.
The race kicks off at 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving. Participants, however, are asked to arrive by 8:30 a.m. for the pre-race meeting — held at the Tupper Lake Christian Center, 102 Main St.
“Erin was a beloved elementary school teacher who lost her battle with Lupus at far too young of an age,” said Laura LaBarge, the town’s recreation director. “The hope is to keep the event going to serve the children of our community with its proceeds.”
The trot is being co-run this year by the town of Tupper Lake Recreation Department and the Kiwanis Club of Tupper Lake. The registration fee is $35 for the 5k walk and run and $45 for the 10k walk and run. All participants will receive a long-sleeved Turkey Trot shirt as part of their registration. Same-day registration is at 8 a.m. Organizers encourage people to register in advance so they have a better understanding of attendance numbers. That can be done at tinyurl.com/mr3wumam.
“Proceeds will cover Kiwanis service projects, scholarships for youth programs and sports and more,” LaBarge said.
Trotters are encouraged to come dressed in their most festive costume and join in for a morning filled with excitement. After the race, people will have the chance to win prizes, take part in raffles, and purchase pies at a bake sale.
