Local author to discuss recent book on May 9

SARANAC LAKE — Award winning author Lorraine Duvall will discuss her latest book at Saranac Lake Village at Will Rogers on Thursday, May 9 at 2 p.m. as part of the ongoing Road to Retirement lecture series.

A moment of particular upheaval inspired “Where The Stiles Brook Waters Flow: The Place I Call Home” and allowed Duvall to explore the intersection between physical landscape and social landscape in the Adirondack Park.

Writing prose is a second calling for the author. She studied math, programming and information systems at a time when computing was exploding into every facet of American life. A PhD led to a career of academic pursuits and technical writing, but retirement and relocation to the Adirondacks set the stage for a turn from technical work to vignettes, personal reflections and prose.

In her presentation the author will speak about the book, the evolution of its underlying sentiment and her growth as a writer.

Saranac Village at Will Rogers, an independent living community for retirees, is located at 78 Will Rogers Drive in Saranac Lake. The community has been presenting Road to Retirement lectures since 2012.

Admission to this program is free; the building is accessible; and light refreshments will be provided. For more information call 518-891-7117.
