Benefit for new Lake Placid Food Pantry is May 19

LAKE PLACID — St. Agnes Church and Mr. Mike’s Pizza are co-hosting a fundraiser for the Lake Placid Food Pantry and Thrift Store Building Fund, “Eat So Others May Eat,” on May 19.

Both the Lake Placid Ecumenical Food Pantry — currently located in the basement of St. Agnes Church — and the Helping Hands Thrift Shop — formerly located on George and Bliss Lane — will be relocating. Both are expected to be housed in a new 3,000 square foot building where the Lake Placid Central School District’s basketball courts are currently located, next to the Shipman Youth Center on Cummings Road. The move into a new building comes after the thrift shop was closed this past November after the condition of its building had deteriorated and was initially unable to find a new location that suited the shop’s needs. The shop served the community for 31 years. The new building is expected to cost around $850,000.

The upcoming fundraiser will be an Italian dinner and pizza buffet on Sunday, May 19 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Mr. Mike’s Pizza, 2742 Main St., Lake Placid.

All proceeds will go to the Ecumenical Food Pantry. Suggested donation is $20 per adult and $12 per child. Cash or checks (made payable to Ecumenical Food Pantry) only. No credit cards.
