Woman accused of stealing medication at Elderwood

LAKE PLACID — New York State Police arrested a Rochester woman last month for allegedly stealing prescription narcotics at Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid.

Antia L. Walker, 34, was charged with 12 counts of first-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person, a felony, at 12:32 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22.

Police say the alleged theft happened at Elderwood nursing home while Walker worked there on July 27, 2023.

A warrant for Walker was issued by State Police in Ray Brook after Walker could not be located for questioning.

On Dec. 22, Walker was spotted in the visitation room at the Auburn Correctional Facility in Cayuga County, a maximum security facility for males. State Police arrested her and transferred her to Ray Brook, where she was processed.

Walker was arraigned on Dec. 23 at North Elba town court and released on her own recognizance. A return court date was issued for Jan. 23.

Walker is represented by public defender James Hyde, who was unavailable for comment on Dec. 27, Dec. 28 and Jan. 2.

Elderwood staff in Lake Placid would not comment on the arrest. Elderwood of Uihlein’s parent company could not be reached for comment by deadline.
