TUPPER LAKE — The second-annual Holiday Stroll begins Friday, Dec. 15, and continues on Saturday.

Festivities will commence at 4 p.m. Friday, and attendees can expect some magic. The street will be twinkling under Christmas lights, and stores will be open late, until 7 p.m., to offer holiday shopping deals. Ollie the Otter, Santa and the Grinch will be around for a bit of whimsy and plenty of photo opportunities. Vendors will set up shop at the train station uptown, and the town of Tupper Lake and Tupper Lake Public Library will host a craft and movie night for kids. Children must be pre-registered to attend the free evening.

Josh McLean, manager of the Adirondack Store and Gallery, helps organize the event with other locals like Evie Longurst of the Tupper Arts Center and Faith McClelland of Spruce & Hemlock.

“It’s a lot of fun,” said McLean.

McLean moved here in 2018 from Plattsburgh. He loves the area, but thinks more events like this would benefit the community. He hopes it will grow, perhaps even including a parade next year.

“It’s really nice to see everyone work to make the town beautiful,” said McLean.

On Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m., Raquette River Brewing will be hosting its annual Tree Decorating Party. In previous years, the party was a standalone for the brewery. This year, they’ve aligned it with the Holiday Stroll.

Patrons who bring a homemade ornament to hang get a free beer, and their ornament will be hung every year in the future. Kids can enjoy a hot cocoa bar, laden with fixings like marshmallows and sprinkles, as well as a table of card-making supplies for Santa, who will make an appearance.

“It gets the kids out,” said bar manager Katy Skiff. “It’s great for the community.”
