Long Lake man charged with brother’s murder

LONG LAKE — A Long Lake man has been charged for allegedly shooting and killing his brother following a verbal altercation on Saturday.

State Police charged Patrick B. Skerrett, 65, of Long Lake with second-degree murder after investigating the death of Terrance J. Skerrett, 64, of Lewis, according to NYSP Troop B Public Information Officer Brandi Ashley.

On Dec. 2, at approximately 2:40 a.m., State Police responded to a residence on Deerland Road in Long Lake for a report of a male deceased from gunshot wounds.

“A preliminary investigation revealed Terrance and Patrick … were involved in a verbal altercation when Patrick discharged a firearm,” Ashley wrote in a statement.

Pathologist Michael Sikirica performed an autopsy on Terrance at Glens Falls Hospital on Sunday and ruled his death a homicide.

“The autopsy determined the cause of death to be shotgun and gunshot wounds to the head and abdomen,” Ashley said, quoting the autopsy report.

Police said Patrick was arraigned in Long Lake Town Court and remanded to Hamilton County Jail without bail.

This case remains under investigation by the State Police and the Hamilton County District Attorney’s Office, according to Ashley.
