NYSP investigates fatal fire in Long Lake
State Police are investigating the cause of a fire which killed the sole occupant of a home on Kickerville Lane in Long Lake Monday morning.
State Police spokeswoman Brandi Ashley said local firefighters and emergency medical volunteers discovered the deceased occupant while fighting the fire. Troopers and members of the NYSP Bureau of Criminal Investigation were called out at 4:27 a.m., she said.
“A positive identification of the occupant is still pending,” she wrote in a statement.
Ashley said an autopsy is scheduled at Glens Falls Hospital for a later date.
She said NYSP is working in conjunction with New York State Fire Investigators to determine the cause of the origin of the fire.
She said the Long Lake, Newcomb and Indian Lake volunteer fire departments responded, as did the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department and Hamilton County coroner.
Ashley said she was not able to release any more information on Tuesday, adding that the fire and the death remain an ongoing investigation.
Long Lake fire Chief Marty Pierce did not immediately respond for comment by deadline Tuesday.
