Tupper Lake food pantry is moving

Pantry also has new director

TUPPER LAKE — The Tupper Lake Community Food Pantry has a new director and will soon have a new home.

After being lodged in the basement of Aaron Maddox Hall in Tupper Lake for almost three decades, it will be moving on Oct. 27 to the Holy Ghost Parish Center — the former Holy Ghost Academy School — on Marion Street in Tupper Lake.

The new space will be fully handicap-accessible and offer a private entrance for clients to maintain confidentiality. The pantry currently provides food security to well over 100 households in Tupper Lake monthly, with distribution hours on both Tuesday and Thursday each week.

Federal and state guidelines mandate that a food pantry provide three days of meals, based on the number of people in the household, but the Tupper Lake Community Food Pantry routinely exceeds that. Clients can receive food twice each month and have a menu of options to choose from. In addition, clients are provided with condiments and personal care products quarterly. Dog and cat food are also provided when available.

The new director, Lisa Kimpflen, says the move is timed to avoid any interruption in service to the community.

Kimpflen thanked the former director, Laurie Pickering, and all the volunteers, for “keeping this important service active in the Tupper Lake community for so many years.”

Starting at $3.92/week.
