Onchiota man convicted of child sex abuse

ONCHIOTA — An Onchiota man has pled guilty to sexually abusing two children at his residence and has been sentenced to two years in prison, according to Franklin County District Attorney Elizabeth Crawford.

Glenn M. Miller, 77, of Onchiota pleaded guilty to first-degree sexual abuse, a felony, on Aug. 17. He was sentenced by Franklin County Court Judge Craig Carriero to two years in state prison followed by 10 years of supervision after his release. Miller will be required to register as a sexual offender.

“Miller utilized his position of trust to gain access to children and now he must serve his sentence for his crimes,” said Assistant District Attorney Alyxandra Stanczak, who prosecuted the case.

She said she did not want to clarify what exactly his position of trust was.

Crawford said Stanczak’s work “successfully removed this dangerous predator from the community.”

“Carriero hailed the children as heroes for coming forward and telling their stories,” Crawford said in a statement.

“The children are understandably angry and sad,” she added. “I know that the children are supported by their family and they will grow up to do great things.”

“After a thorough investigation it was determined Miller sexually abused victims under the age of 13 years (old),” New York State Police said in April.

Crawford said “justice began the minute Miller said ‘guilty’ and apologized.”

“These cases will always be difficult but every time a child is brave enough to come forward, my office will listen and seek justice,” she added. “Our office remains committed to punishing predators and seeking justice for victims.”

Crawford thanked State Police, who investigated and initially charged Miller on April 24, as well as the Child Advocacy Center for assistance in assigning an advocate for the family and interviewing the children.

Franklin County Public Defender Thomas Soucia, who represented Miller, was not immediately available for comment on Thursday.
