New exhibit features two Saranac Lakers
ESSEX — Two Saranac Lakers, scientist Stephen Langdon and visual artist Aaron Hobson, will be featured in a group photography exhibit at Whitcomb’s Arts in Essex through Oct. 15.
The exhibit, titled “NEXTDOOR,” opened on Oct. 1 but an opening reception is scheduled for 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. this Sunday, Oct. 8. Each artist will speak about their works at the opening reception, starting at 4:30 p.m.
The exhibit was curated by Laurie House and seeks to invite viewers to experience the Adirondacks through four different lenses. The photographers drew from their unique experiences to train their attention on different details, neighbors and landscapes.
Lifelong scientist Langdon puts on the artist’s hat in the hopes of using his art to build interest in the environmental importance of peat bogs. His show weaves together large, atmospheric prints of bogs, poetic writing and cheery Facebook posts.
Hobson achieved success as an art photographer, but chose to leave the world of wine and cheese and just enjoy photography. For this show, he chronicles his 100 consecutive days at Lonesome Point — near Saranac Lake — to allay a midlife crisis.
Other artists featured include Catherine Seidenberg of Westport and Barry Goldstein, a documentary photographer based in Lewis.
