LEWIS — The Essex County Agricultural District enrollment period is from Oct. 20 to Nov. 19.

New York state Department of Agriculture and Markets sets the open enrollment period for adding parcels to the Agricultural District. Landowners wishing to have parcels added to Essex County Agricultural District #1 need to submit an enrollment form before Nov. 19.

Any landowner producing agricultural products can apply. There is no minimum amount of production required. The inclusion into the Ag District gives the landowner “right to farm” protection by New York state. Applications are reviewed for approval by the Essex County Farmland Protection Board.
