MALONE — The third annual Fly-in Festival is scheduled for this weekend at the airport on Route 11, with vendors, aircraft displays and live music planned for Saturday and Sunday.

The Malone Chamber of Commerce and the Malone-Dufort Airport will host the Fly-in, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a..m to 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Multiple bands will be playing at the Farmers Market pavilion on Saturday, according to Mary Scharf, president of the Malone Chamber of Commerce, with Josee Allard playing on Sunday.

Additionally, on Sunday afternoon, the Malone Revitalization Foundation will hosts the The Gibson Brothers, whose performance at the airport will start at 4 p.m., and pre-sale tickets costing $10 and $15 at the gate.

“We are hoping to be able to give a donation to Morningside Cemetery,” Scharf said, “That’s because Orville Gibson is buried here in Malone, we want to help preserve his grave.”

According to Scharf, Gibson, who was born in the North Country, founded Gibson guitars.

Scharf said 33 vendors will be on hand for the airport’s festival, in addition to food trucks.

“This is the third year of the festival and that is the most vendors we have ever had,” Bruce Burditt, the town’s airport manager, said.

Scharf said money raised at the festival will also go toward the development of an app by the Malone Revitalization Foundation.

“I’m looking forward to everybody having a good time and for us to be able to put some money together to help out the cemetery and to help out the app. Malone Revitalization is creating, a tourist app for the historic district,” Scharf said, “That’s what we are fundraising for.”

According to Burditt, speaking at a town council meeting, Wednesday evening, he said he is hoping for good weather.

“We need the good weather, we have all the ducks in a row we just got to hope for the weather,” Burditt said, “We’ll have the state police helicopter, and the New York State Forest Rangers High Peaks Rescue is going to be on static display.”

Burditt said there will be helicopter rides offered at the Fly-in and a couple planes are lined up to offer airplane rides as well.

A Pilatus LifeNet plane, out of Potsdam, will also be on hand for the festival, according to Burditt.

Town Councilman Paul Walbridge thanked Burditt for the work leading up to the event.

“It’s a good way to showcase our airport and Malone,” Walbridge said.
