Lake Placid power outage planned this Wednesday

LAKE PLACID — Repairs to the transmission system serving the village of Lake Placid will require a multi-hour outage beginning at 1 a.m. this Wednesday, according to National Grid.

The village of Lake Placid operates an independent municipal electric department and electricity is delivered to the village’s system through National Grid’s transmission network.

During a recent inspection, National Grid detected a faulty transmission switch that requires repair to ensure reliability and resiliency. The transmission line will be de-energized at 1 a.m. on Dec. 7 and crews will work overnight to repair the switch. National Grid and the Lake Placid Electric Department will work together to restore power by 5 a.m. on Dec. 7.

There is no anticipated interruption of school for students, faculty and staff of the Lake Placid Central School District. Additionally, village leaders are working with local businesses to mitigate impacts, according to National Grid.

The repair is urgent to support the increased electric requirements of events in the village, such as the upcoming Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games.
