‘Safe Harbor’ play reading slated Nov. 4

SARANAC LAKE — Historic Saranac Lake will host a reading of “Safe Harbor,” a play about the TB years in Saranac Lake, on Nov. 4. The play will be read from the stage of the historic auditorium at the former Trudeau Sanatorium from 6 to 8 p.m. at 576 Park Ave. in Saranac Lake.

“Safe Harbor” is a play about two people whose lives intersect in a small cure cottage in Saranac Lake. It was written to illuminate the experiences of many who, made outcasts by tuberculosis, were able to reclaim their humanity in Saranac Lake. The play was written in 1990 by Karen L. Lewis, one of the founders of Adirondack Stage Rats, a collective of theater artists and devotees. Adirondack Stage Rats is dedicated to creating intimate small batch theater for discriminating play-goers.

“We are excited to bring this play to the historic venue of the former Trudeau Sanatorium,” said Historic Saranac Lake Executive Director Amy Catania. As an introduction to the performance, Catania will provide a brief history of the Sanatorium property.

The reading of “Safe Harbor” will be directed by Beth Glover, co-founder of Adirondack Stage Rats. Actors will be Donna Fortune, Christopher H. Leifheit, Tyler Nye and Josie Good.

Tickets will be available on a first come, first served basis, at a cost of $30 per person to support the work of Historic Saranac Lake and their project to rehabilitate the Trudeau Building for expansion of their history museum. Tickets will be available for sale while they last at www.historicsaranaclake.org/events. Wine and light refreshments will be served.

Starting at $3.92/week.
