LAKE PLACID — The Good Bite Kitchen is in a new space for the first time in 10 years, and owner Kayte Billerman is bringing the business in a new direction.

With the Good Bite’s move last month from Main Street to 6115 Sentinel Road — the former home of the Kreature Butcher Shop, in the former Liquids and Solids building — Billerman’s focus has shifted from making meal kits to preparing “heat and eat” meals that people can take home and heat up for a fresh, “vegetable-forward” dinner. Billerman said she’s been wanting to make heat and eat options for locals for a while, so she decided to make the move from Main Street to Sentinel to have a more accessible location with more parking options.

Billerman founded the Good Bite in 2012 after receiving a vegan culinary education. She started out making vegetarian lunches before shifting to meal kits in 2018. The meal kit program was especially handy when the coronavirus pandemic hit in 2020, Billerman said, because she could drop the kits off outside people’s homes at a time when people were avoiding going to the grocery store.

Billerman’s new heat and eats are friendly to both carnivores and vegetarians, and she supports other local businesses by sourcing her ingredients from farms like Harmony Hills Farmstead in West Monroe and Asgaard Farm and Dairy in Au Sable Forks. The Good Bite is also working to reduce waste by offering locals reusable containers for their meals.

The Good Bite is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, though Billerman said she’s working on an establishing outdoor pickup station where people could grab their meals after hours.
