New exhibit opens at Adirondack Artists Guild today

SARANAC LAKE — “Flowers,” an exhibit of recent photographs by Eleanor Sweeney, will be on display at the Adirondack Artists Guild from June 3 through June 27.

Sweeney made most of the works in the show during this past winter. She was inspired by the beautiful bunches of tulips grown at Little Farmhouse Flowers in Jay and available at Nori’s. Starting out as normal looking tulips, some of them expanded into ruffly exotic flowers that she would photograph.

The show also includes some sunflowers, which Sweeney happened to make in January and early February, never thinking about the significance they would come to have after the invasion of Ukraine.

A few of the photographs will appear more than once, but will be very different from each other because of the ways Sweeney manipulated and printed them.

The gallery will host a reception for “Flowers” from 5-7 p.m. today. Masks will be requested.
