New exhibit opens at Adirondack Artists Guild May 6
SARANAC LAKE — Suzanne Langelier-Lebeda will be the featured artist at the Adirondack Artists Guild for the month of May, with an exhibit of watercolors opening on May 6.
The new exhibit will run through May 31.
“The collection of images that make up my exhibit, ‘Watercolor Moods and Seasons,’ began during the isolation times that COVID-19 imposed on us. I welcomed the extra studio time to work with the challenge of watercolors. The paintings are more ‘inner landscapes’ of imagined terrain from memory rather than specific places,” Langelier-Lebeda said. “Being an artist defines how I see nature and the environment around me. My art is inspired by the connection I feel between ourselves and nature. I am especially drawn to the atmospheric beauty of the ever-changing skies and mists that often shroud the mountainous areas. I worked with looser strokes and experimented with limited palettes of the colors to represent the moods of the paintings.
“Watercolors aren’t forgiving or easy to control, so there are errant strokes and stubborn drips in some of these inner landscapes,” she added. “However, the challenges and the unexpected surprises keep me working with watercolors. As an artist, in the process of creating, I want to reflect on the awe and wonder in nature to evoke awareness. The need for more shared responsibility in caring for our common home is the heart of my work.”
For the first time in over two years, the guild will host a reception on Friday with light refreshments. Masks are requested.
