Saranac Lake mayoral candidate forum slated March 1
SARANAC LAKE — The three candidates running for mayor of the Village of Saranac Lake will answer questions from local residents and the area business community during a special candidates’ forum co-hosted by the Adirondack Daily Enterprise and Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.
The forum will take place virtually via Zoom on Tuesday, March 1 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. To register, visit https://tinyurl.com/SLmayorforum. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about how to login to the event. The forum will also be livestreamed on the Enterprise and Chamber Facebook pages.
All three mayoral candidates — Jeremy Evans, Melinda Little and Jimmy Williams — have agreed to participate in the forum, which will be co-moderated by Enterprise Managing Editor Elizabeth Izzo and Chamber Vice President Chris Knight.
Questions for the candidates will be generated by the Enterprise and the chamber, based in part on questions submitted from the Saranac Lake area business community and local residents. The questions will not be shared with the candidates in advance of the forum.
Voters are encouraged to submit questions in advance by emailing them to chamber Executive Director Rachel Karp at director@slareachamber.org.
The format for the forum will feature opening statements by each candidate, a question-and-answer period with rebuttals, and closing statements. Candidates will be allowed two minutes for both opening and closing statements, two minutes for responses to the questions, and one-minute rebuttals.
At the conclusion of the mayoral portion of the forum, the three candidates who are seeking two available trustee seats on the village board — Kelly Brunette, Matt Scollin and Susan Waters — will each be allotted up to five minutes to introduce themselves and talk about why they’re running.
“We are excited to be co-hosting this event with the Adirondack Daily Enterprise,” Karp said. “This is an important election for our local community with three great mayoral candidates, and we hope this allows residents an opportunity to learn more about each candidate and their plans for Saranac Lake.”
